Costa Rican Emblem.

Costa Rican Oxcarts.

The Oxcart is one of the symbols of Costa Rica. Painted by hand with bright colors and unique designs, they are a beautiful representation of the local art and folklore.

The Typical dress.

Costa Rican typical dress is used for traditional. The women dress have bright colors like red, blue, green and yellow with long skirt and thick ruffles. Men wear dark color pants, a white shirt, a hat, a red handkerchief and leather belt and sandals.

Guarianthe skinneri

This beautiful orchid, the Guaria Morada is the national flower, this plant is used by the locals to decorate their gardens, altars and the roofs of their houses.there are several different shapes and colours : the flowers can be from pure white over pale rose to magenta.

The Marimba.

The origin of the marimba goes back to Africa and later to Latin America. Traditional marimba music still very popular in Costa Rica by people of all ages. The charm of its music is enjoyed specially in festivities and celebrations. It is the national instrument since 1996.

Spider Monkey.

Its long limbs, reduced thumbs and long prehensile tail (35 in) make them one of the most acrobatic creatures in the rainforest. Their diet consists mainly on fruit, leaves, nuts and insects.

American Crocodile.

In Tarcoles River there are a few 16 ft. individuals. They are a big tourist attraction. Full grown adults don´t have natural predators.

Spectacled Caiman.

It is the most common of all crocodilian species. Its name comes from a bone that join their eyes together like a pair of spectacles.Males are generally 6 ft.

Green Iguana.

Males can reach 6ft. They are fast and agile. Active during the day, they feed on eggs, insects, flowers, fruit and leaves. Inmature and juveniles are green in color. Males become orange in color during mating season.

Black Spiny Tail Iguana.

Common on the Pacific. Males can grow 4 ft. in lenght. And have a crest of spines on their back. Is one of the fastest lizzards in the world, reaching speeds of more than 20mph.

Emerald Basilisk.

Very common in Tortuguero. On water it runs at a speed of 5 mph!

Scarlet Macaw

One of the most beautiful birds in the rainforest. It is an endangered species. Carara Nat. Park and Osa peninsula are very inportant habitats for these amazing birds.
