The indigenous population in the country increased in 40.267 inhabitants. The 2000 Census accounted 63.876 and the 2011 census counts 104.143 from which 51.709 are female and 52.434 are male. The orden of importance according to the population number will be the following: Bribri, Cabécar, Chorotega, Ngöbe, Brunka, Huetar, y Maleku.
